Edgewood Orchards has been around for over 100 years – and if you’ve tasted their peaches, you’ll know why. Located in Jordan Station, ON, the orchard is situated on top of a glacial lake bottom, which provides the deep sandy loam soil needed for peach trees to flourish. In addition to their favourable landscape, the trees get plenty of sunlight – the key to a sweet peach.
The harvest is precisely timed so peaches are at the peak of their ripeness, firmness and flavour when picked. Because the orchard is relatively close to Longo’s stores, peaches can be picked and delivered the same day. This means “Longo’s can guarantee they’re providing their customers with only the freshest, every day,” says Mimmo Franzone, director of produce.
Edgewood has been supplying Longo’s with their sweet Ontario peaches for over 50 years. According to owner and operator Bob Troup, their shared values is what makes for a long-lasting partnership and helps ensure customers get the “pick of the crop.”
While Bob likes to enjoy his peaches fresh off the tree, Mimmo prefers his grilled and topped with goat cheese and balsamic vinegar. Whether you prefer them in their natural state or with a savoury twist, Longo’s looks forward to providing their customers with more of Edgewood Orchard’s sweet Ontario-grown peaches.
